This webinar will explore how the words we use affect individuals in recovery. Research on common terminology will be discussed and commonly held beliefs and myths will be debunked. Participants will learn strategies to eliminate stigmatizing language through storytelling and conducting a stigma audit.

Marianna Horowitz is a Senior Project Coordinator at Faces & Voices of Recovery, with a primary focus to work with Association of Recovery Community Organizations (ARCO) members to develop Recovery Community Organizations (RCO’s) and strengthen the national RCO network. A woman in long-term recovery, Ms. Horowitz has more than 6-years’ experience in resource development, advocacy, systems change, managing a statewide peer-to peer credential training program, and developing a statewide RCO network. Marianna is a skilled training facilitator, energetic public speaker, and an agent of social change for transforming public views and systemic practices to encourage and elevate recovery. As a social work major, currently enrolled in school, with a focus on mezzo and macro level social work, she emphasizes the importance of collaboration and systems change. Marianna is committed to eliminating barriers to recovery and creating systemic changes at the community, state, and federal levels.
